2025 Outlook: Mocha Mousse, Snakes, Gold Prices & Jewellery Trends

Say goodbye to the January blues and immerse yourself in the warm, comforting hues of Mocha Mousse—Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2025. Inspired by quiet luxury and everyday comfort, this rich, earthy shade of chocolate brown evokes thoughts of velvety milk chocolate and indulgent coffee tones.

Moving away from 2024’s soft and fruity Peach Fuzz, 2025 embraces a deeper, more grounded aesthetic. Think chocolate diamonds, champagne diamonds, topaz, hessonite garnets, smoky quartz, and even brown zircons, which dazzle with their sparkle. Tahitian pearls in natural tones will likely complement this palette beautifully, alongside creamy neutrals and dusty rose gold for a softer edge.

As this colour gains traction, it’s expected to influence not just fashion and jewellery but also interiors and lifestyle trends. Its earthy tones also harmonise with the Year of the Wood Snake in the Chinese zodiac, which symbolises balance, personal growth, wisdom, and renewal. This is a year for shedding old skins, stepping outside comfort zones, and embracing nature’s nurturing energy.

Wrap around Torque Style Yellow Gold Snake Ring £595.00

Snake Jewellery: Timeless Icon

Snakes have been a design favourite throughout history, with all the great design houses (or Maisons) boasting collections inspired by this iconic motif. Whether it’s serpent rings, coiled bangles, pendants, or torque necklaces, snake jewellery exudes elegance and versatility.

Add gemstones to elevate your pieces—think emeralds, rubies, or diamonds. From Ancient Egypt to Art Nouveau, and even Queen Victoria’s famed snake engagement ring symbolising eternal love, this design has stood the test of time. High jewellery brands like Bulgari and Cartier continue to mesmerise with their Serpenti collections, worn by legends like Elizabeth Taylor.

If you’ve yet to add a serpent-inspired piece to your collection, 2025 might be the perfect time to invest in this timeless, meaningful style.

Gold Prices and Jewellery Trends

Gold prices, although high since the pandemic, are expected to remain relatively stable in 2025. Some predictions suggest the price could approach 3,000 USD per ounce, depending on global economic and political developments.

Jewellery trends this year echo those of 2024, with a focus on comfort and versatility:

  • Stacked rings and layered chunky gold chains

  • Mixed metals, blending gold, silver, and platinum

  • Bold coloured gemstones for statement pieces

  • Talisman, charms and sentimental designs like hearts and lockets

Meanwhile, classic staples such as diamond hoops, solitaire pendants, simple gold studs, and pearl jewellery remain evergreen favourites. As gold prices rise, there may be a shift towards silver and platinum for more affordable yet luxurious options.

2025 promises a blend of tradition and innovation, grounding us in timeless beauty while inviting bold, playful experimentation.

January Birthdays: Gifting Made Easy

Finding the perfect gift for a January birthday can be a bit of a challenge between the Christmas sales and Valentine’s Day merchandise. However, one thing you can never go wrong with is jewellery.

For those born in January, garnet is the traditional birthstone, and it offers far more variety than you might think. While many associate garnets with deep red hues, this versatile gemstone comes in a range of stunning colours. So, if red isn’t quite your style, take your pick from these five gorgeous garnet varieties:

  • Andradite: yellow to green. Includes demantoid: A brilliant green variety of andradite that's highly prized by collectors.

  • Grossular: A green variety of grossular is Tsavorite which is very rare and sought after. It is found in Africa's Tsavo National Park. It's known for its electric green shade. There is also a pastel mint green cousin of Tsavorite known as Merelani garnet that fluoresces orange under UV light.

  • Hessonite: A variety of grossular that ranges from orange and orangy red to brownish red

  • Pyrope / Almandine: From purple to red with rhodolite being part of this group having a purplish red variety. Most people commonly associate garnets with these red varieties.

  • Spessartine: Orange to yellow. Includes mandarin garnet: A variety of spessartite with a striking orange colour, also Malaya garnet a peach variety of spessartine.

Garnets: A Gemstone of Endless Possibilities

Gem-quality garnets are available in almost every colour, with most being untreated to preserve their natural beauty. Renowned for their exceptional transparency and captivating optical effects, garnets boast brightly reflective surfaces that add a touch of brilliance to any piece of jewellery.

In addition to their stunning appearance, garnets are valued for their durability. Hard and tough enough for everyday wear, they are resistant to fading or discolouration, making them the perfect gemstone to be worn and cherished for years to come.
